The hot and humid weather broke and we had a a comfortable mid-seventies temp day. Today’s route was full of hills, lots of climbing and lots of coasting. About eight of us “bumped” the first 40 miles of the 80+ mile route and had a pretty good ride, despite the hills. Our route took us through an Army base, Fort Belvoir, a cute little River town, Occuquan on the Occuquan River, past Mt. Vernon ( full of tourist busses and tourists,) then on to the Mount Vernon Bike Trail for a 10-12 mile ride into Alexandria. The bike trail was great fun, with lots of twists, turns, climbs and coasts. The trail follows the Potomac River.
Out to dinner last night with some fellow riders and had a good steak and some tasty Pinot noir. Today is raining, a good day to stay put and rest. Tomorrow we ride into Maryland. Time is flying. Only three more weeks until we reach Bar Harbor.
